Manoeuvring trials

Why?

For newly built vessels or modified vessels, manoeuvring trials have to be conducted to verify compliance with IMO, NAUT(AW) or other applicable criteria. For designers it gives valuable feedback on the predicted manoeuvrability, enhancing future designs. For rudder manufacturers we verify the change of manoeuvring characteristics for retro-fitted vessels.

We perform the required manoeuvres, such as zig-zag manoeuvres, turning circles, crash stop, and other optional manoeuvres that you desire or that are required by class.

What we do

JMC performs manoeuvring trials by measuring the following parameters synchronously:

  • Ship position, heading, course and speed
  • Propeller shaft torque, RPM, power
  • Steering/rudder angles
  • Ship motions in 6-degrees of freedom
  • Relative wind speed and direction
  • Other optional parameters by interfacing with IAS/VDR/etc.

The manoeuvring characteristics are presented in:

  • Manoeuvring booklet
  • Wheelhouse Poster
  • Pilot Card
